"Jr." is a 2wd 1988 Ford Bronco II.  I bought this in the fall of 2004.  It had an A4ld auto and 2.9 V-6.

This is what my project began as.  It was the correct color.  Did not have a rear tire carrier.  And had

ice cold AC and a CD player.  I could have driven it home but we had a trailer so we didn't need a

temp tag or on road insurance.

The 2.9 had some problems.  A broken passengers side exhaust manifold for one.  So we pulled the engine

when the old manifold bolts broke off in the head. All but one were drilled out and had Heli Coils installed.

The O2 sensor was also in bad shape and a new wire and sensor is needed.

While the engine was out my oldest son Clint worked very hard cleaning the engine.  He then replace the valve cover gaskets.  The oil pan gasket.  The front cover gasket and front seal.  Put a new water pump on.

Clint is really working hard.  We had a chance to get rid of the 7.5 rear end so out it came.

In it's place for now is an Explorer 31 spline 8.8 drum brake abs rear axle and Skyjacker 6" lift springs.  It has 3.50 gears.  I will run 33's most of the time.  I have set of 36's available.  I also have a 31 spline 9" full width axle.  It needs to be rebuilt.  I'd like to go with Detroit Lockers front and back in case the 36's somehow get on "Jr.".  The cost of a DL for the 9" is about $125 less than one for the 8.8.  So if I go DL it will cost less to do the 9".  If drive shaft lenth will permit I would like to run a second t-case.  Klune-V has stated they may have unit ($1600) for the BII.  There are several being offered over on the RRORC board($900 and down).  And of course I could just go with an Atlas T-case($2500).  Too many ways to get at the same thing.  May just try to go the low $$ route and keep the 8.8 the way it is and pick up a doubler t-case.

This is the A4LD that we took out.  It has a dummy t-case.  It was sold.

This is a C-5 out of an 84 BII that will go in the A4LD's place.  It is almost 5 inches shorter.  That will help out with drive shaft angles but it does not have an over drive.  The only real question is will the 2.9 pull 3.55 gears and 33" tall tires on the highway.  Maybe one of these days I'll find a good deal on a 4.0.

I started out with a BDS 6" lift then talked myself into needing longer radius arms and rear 6" lift leaf springs.  So I  picked up some Skyjacker long arms with the rear cross member / tranny mount and the rear springs.  Then I talked myself into the Skyjacker front kit.  So here is a picture of the black BDS front 6" coil next to the Red Skyjacker 6" coil.  BDS lift was sold.

This shifter will be used for a 1354 manual t-case that will bolt to the back of the doubler box.

The shift lever on the doubler case is too long.  This lever will be removed and used on the 1354 T-case with the shifter.

Doubler is in for Jr.  Should have more pic's with the install later.

This shows a problem area with the doubler install.  The C-5 and adapter is almost 5" shorter than the A4LD but the doubler box adds 8".  So everything on the back of the t-case will be over 3" to the rear.  One option is to cut the floor pan.  Another is to install a body lift.

You can see on the bottom side that as the tunnel narrows  and the floor drops there is a brace.  I have read that if you cut this brace the floor will bow downwards under load.  As this truck will be used to travel to Colorado and Utah and carry all my camping equipment I am reluctant to cut this.
